The representative (or ambassador) of Taiwan to Finland, Freddy Lim, is a fascinating personality. Growing up during the last years of the one party martial law, heavy metal was Freddy’s way of expressing his desire for freedom under a suppressive regime. He then became a part of the new progressive democratic ruling party, and is now the highest ranking diplomat of Taiwan in Finland. We talk about the history of Taiwan, how Finland (Europe) and Taiwan can learn from each other, Freddy’s history with metal music, and geopolitics.
